From 1960s, Warhol was a commercial illustrator. He also known as a painter, printmaker and filmmaker as a pop art artist and became popular in early 1960s. The monoprints technique was always been used in his early work. He had many exhibitions in New York's museums or galleries during 1960s~1980s. He made paintings of brand names, celebrities and dollar signs. The Campbell's Soup Cans from the Campbell Soup Company and Coca Cola Bottles were the very famous work from Warhol. This work Campbell's Soup Cans sold for $10,000 at an auction on 1971. Warhol used silk-screening in his later drawings. He used this technique to produce art work of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe ,Elizabeth Taylor etc.
What was the idea of the commercial product of Warhol's work? As we knew Warhol as a pop art artist and he sold his work by the very large amount of money. He used the common things which we could see them around as his subject matter in his work such as dollar bills, celebrities and brand names products. He painted the things he loved the most. A very famous work from him "Campbell's Soup Cans" was a very successful work sold for $10,000. He painted them because he have had this soup for most of lunch in his life. Another work "Coca Cola bottles" was another very successful work. The coke was a very common thing in the world particularly in America. He said many American loved coke, every class of people could drink it and the taste would be the same. "What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca Cola, too. A coke is a coke and no amount of money can get you a better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it." The celebrities he had used in his work were very impactive in the sociality such as Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot ,Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson. They were all known as a singer ,actress or model but they were also the celebrities who usually could be seen on TV and most people knew them. He also produced a work of Mao Zedong, the Chinese Communist leader. He made the paintings of these celebrities to make money because he loved them and so did most of the people no matter what class of they were. We could see them through different kinds of media mostly on TV and they were impactive and became a commodity in our life.
